Learn Always

Published by at 1:26 pm under Ramblings,Writing

Where and how are you educating yourself?

One of the tenets of my homeschooling upbringing was that school is everything, everywhere, all the time; you never stop learning. If you want an education in something specific, you just have to be deliberate about it.

From blogs and newsletters and history books and literature and style guides and dictionaries, I learn about publishing and grammar and language and marketing every single day, just about. That doesn’t mean I read EVERYTHING; part of getting a good education is realizing that you can’t possibly read every piece of information out there. You have to be discerning, get yourself on the right lists, pay attention to the right people.

Where are you getting your education?

    Hi Rachel,

Like you, I try to read something everyday that teaches and inspires my dreams and goals. I am linked to writers and publishers blogs and websites, as well as marketers, and, to keep my passion for pictures, photography. And it can be an overwhelming amount of information but I placed a goal for myself to read two articles a day. I trust God leads me to the right ones I need at that moment, like yours today!

I’m also studying toward my Professional Writing degree on a slow, but progressive basis. It sometimes feels like very small baby steps, but I’m moving and that is really what matters, I believe!

Lynn, “two a day” sounds like a really smart goal. Not only does it mean you’re getting a good education, it also keeps it under control! My biggest temptation is to spend three hours every day going from blog to blog and reading all the interesting stuff out there, which does not ultimately help my productiveness.

What are some of the blogs you’ve found most helpful, if you don’t my asking?

I learn by living; reading, asking questions, researching, taking field trips, talking with my family, reading the Bible, and observing!
