Paint the Light
“Paint the Light,” my third article on Christians in the arts, was published on Boundless.org last week. I nearly missed it, as I was on a road trip throughout the southern United States :). This one’s written especially for writers. Enjoy!

That was a wonderful article! Very inspiring.
Rachel, I loved your article. Sometimes I forget the importance of exercising creativity, and I waste my time in piddly stuff. Sometimes I let my everyday duties take more time than they should, and I lose the sense of urgency. You reminded me of the need for Christians to create, to not sit around and let our talents and blessings go unused in this dark world. Your words were stirring, visionary, giving glimpses of the great works yet to be written. Thanks, and God bless you and your family!
I love “Living the Past,” but I think I love “Paint the Light” MORE. You write with a sense of urgency that inspires me to get on and just write, rather than just “trying” in a world full of distractions and discouragements. “Paint the Light” reminds me of the words of a song I love, “Take your candle, go light your world …” As believers, we are “children of light” and we EACH have a “candle.” As we are gifted and called, we will take our “candle” and light our world in different ways, in different places. As believers who WRITE … our “candle” represents not just our faith, but our inspiration, our imagination, our ability to create characters and weave plots, our ability to bring the past (for example, in my case – as a writer of historical fiction) to life, our ability to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and WRITE. We have to hear and heed the call … take our candles and go light our world … or as you say, “paint the light.”
